75th Anniversary of the PDSA Dickin Medal

Brief:

Create a touring exhibition celebrating 75years of the PDSA Dickin Medal (The animal equivalent of the Victoria Cross).

Solution:

To qualify for a medal the animal has to have saved a life during conflict, which is rarely recorded on film. I led the creative team to re-create 4 stories in a graphic novel style, using four different illustrators, becoming the foundation for the exhibition, film and printed collateral.

Results:

The key challenge was to maintain the disticntion between a graphic novel and a comic, which could potentially offend any visitors, some of whom lost loved ones. Great care was taken to select and obtain military and family approvals. The exhibition is now touring the UK at public galleries and military headquarters.

We Also Serve.

Sensitively bringing together the heroic stories with the graphic novel illustrations, film director Adam Palmer worked as part of the in-house creative team to direct the original score by Thom Robson and edit a compelling exhibition film.
